POSITION: Youth Services Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in education or human services field preferred, some college required. Experience with desktop publishing software and excellent customer service skills; knowledge of children’s literature; prior experience working with children required. Must have good writing skills; be artistic, creative, innovative, outgoing, and enthusiastic. General knowledge of library use and procedures; children’s activities and programming preferred. Work requires standing, stooping and bending for extended periods of time and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Branch Supervisor, plan and execute services and programs for children and young adults and assist patrons in the use of the library. Must prepare and present weekly story and craft time. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, must interact with schools, youth services organizations, and adults working with youth and parents within the community. Required to attend monthly JHLS Youth Services meetings.
HOURS:
40 hours per week, (9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday and 9:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday). Also scheduled three to four times per year at the Eudora Welty Library (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday).
COMPENSATION:
$18,400 minimum annual salary; excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; State of Mississippi retirement plan.
